25 Weeks

Hello all! Well, I (Katy) am currently 25 weeks (6 1/2 months) pregnant and realized that I should probably write what's been going on with us since we created this blog. First of all, I feel great! For those of you who don't know, we are having a baby boy - due July 4th, 2009 - Independance Day, and will be naming him Christian Michael. Christian is Paul's middle name, and Michael is my dad's middle name.

I've had blood work done twice since being pregnant...the first time was at 14 weeks, at which time they tested my blood for signs of down syndrome and spina bifida in the baby...those tests both came back negative. Phew! The second set of blood tests were done at 22 weeks, testing for my overall health and well-being. They told me I am 'A positive' blood type. I tested negative for HIV and Hepatitus, although I was slightly anemic. So my doctor put me on an iron supplement in addition to my prenatel vitamins. It's called Slow Fe, and I take one everyday with my prenatal, which will help with the iron deficiency. It's a fairly common pregnancy symptom, and nothing to worry about.

Other than that, I have felt good throughout the entire pregnancy so far. No morning sickness, slight nausea in the first trimester. I was VERY tired during the first trimester, but that is gone for now. I was also slightly tired these past few weeks, I think it was due to the slight anemia, which can make you very fatigued. Which makes sense, because since I've been on the extra iron supplement, the fatigue is going away! Yay!

My pants definately do not fit any longer, so I bought the bella band to wear over pre-pregnancy pants...probably the best money I ever spent..since now I won't have to buy as many pregnancy pants to wear to work. I will be posting pics of the growing belly very soon, as soon as Paul and I get around to it. The nursery is basically finished, except for decorating, as you can see from the pictures. Lots of items we will be decorating with are on our registry. So now we're just waiting to see what items we receive, and what we will still need to purchase in order to make the final touches on the nursery. The couples baby shower is planned for Saturday, May 23rd at Ferd B. Lang park in Arnold, MO.

Paul's grandparents, Marguerite & David, bought us our beautiful crib from Babies 'R' Us. It is a convertible crib in cherry wood, which converts into a toddler bed, day bed, and eventually a full-size bed. Christian will be able to take that bed off to college if he wants! We are very grateful to have wonderful family members that love us dearly! This will also be Marguerite & David's first great-grandchild, so they are thrilled!

We purchased our changing table at Target, in cherry wood finish to match the crib. We also bought a darker wood end table to go on the side of the crib. I am still planning to put a glider/ottoman in the nursery as well, which my mother, grandmother, aunt and uncle are planning on purchasing for me. That's the last piece of furniture to go in the room.

Paul did a fabulous job painting the room, putting up new doors and putting up the trim (cherry finish too). We decided on a neutral green color, since we painted before knowing the sex of the baby. We took paint swatches in various shades of greens and yellows to Babies 'R' Us and picked a color that would match both boy or girl bedding that we choose. The green is perfect with the Baby Cocoa bedding we picked. The next purchase will be drapes/curtains for the window in the nursery.

I have my monthly doctor's appointment tomorrow (3/18), and will hear Christian's heartbeat through the doppler again. I'm going to ask if I will have anymore ultrasounds, since that is by far the coolest part of being pregnant! I am in the last couple weeks of my second trimester now, so I think my doctor is going to want to see me every 2 weeks during the third trimester, and every week the last month of pregnancy! YUCK!

Other than all that, Paul and I are just working full-time, coming home, watching tv or movies, and playing with our puppies. Enjoying the time we still have together as a couple sans kids. =) Life is good...we are very blessed to be having a baby boy and can't wait to welcome him into our family.
